10 Handmade Products Inspired by Movies That Pass “The Bechdel Test”

Before I begin, I should explain what the test is. The test was popularized by Alison Bechdel's comic Dykes to Watch Out For, in a 1985 strip called The Rule. In order to pass you must pass these simple criteria:
  1. It must have at least two [named] women in it. Not “Shop Girl 1”.
  2. Who talk to each other for at least 2 lines of dialogue.
  3. About something besides a man.
    For Example:
Amy: “Hey Lisa, what are your plans today?”
Lisa: “Nothing much Amy, just thinking about getting some pizza.”

Easy right? Nope! Many don’t pass this easy test and there is still work to do but in the meantime let’s celebrate the great few that do. Here are a few of my favorite gifts inspired by these movies.

    1. Little Women

Emma from Emma Block Illustration painted the sweetest watercolor featuring my favorite four sisters. Get a copy and of this iconic wintery scene.

    2. Booksmart

Joanne perfectly encapsulates how to be a winner in this amazing piece! Seriously this movie is hilarious and this print is spot on. Get it at Happy as a Bean before it's gone like your teenage life.

    3. Mean Girls

Not going to toot my own horn but...TOOT TOOT. lol. This is my embroidery hoop inspired by the queen herself Regina George. Isn't it so fetch?

    4. The Color Purple

Meg from The Film Artist has her own unique style, I love it and I think you will too. There is no guessing that this piece screams The Color Purple.

    5. A League of Their Own

    6. Clueless

Ugh, as if you don't have a reusable bag for all your shopping trips?! Like we are trying to save the turtles here! Mochella has your back.

    7. Legally Blonde

Seriously, what would Elle do? Probably the "Bend and Snap" then she would come up with the most epic of all plans. What, like it's hard?

    8. The Craft

    Writing On The Wall Designs

I can't forget my favorite witches. I feel like my emo soul was seen for the first time watching this witchy movie and seriously how perfect is this planchette. I need it on my alter now.

    9. Hidden Figures

    Anti Anxiety Art

Did you know that women got us to the moon? Ahh yes and this would be perfect to celebrate women in STEM. Julianna at Anti Anxiety Art has many more gorgeous ladies. Please check her out!

     10. The Devil Wears Prada

    The Pop Shop Design

And last but definitely not least we have Miranda Priestly. One of the OG badass Boss Bitches around. I love her, she was a leader in her industry and got shit done. If you have a snarky attitude like me... well this should be your go-to card.
